The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has an online service to appeal a decision if you believe that your Covid-19 grant application was declined unfairly.
It is important to note that Sassa will only reconsider applications of those who received a rejection status and not those who received an approval. The agency also requires applicants to lodge their appeal within 30 days of receiving a rejection status.
An applicant’s identity is verified by the Department of Home Affairs before they can be approved for the grant. This means that Sassa will run through several different databases when considering their applications.

If this does not give results, Sassa will then check if there are any other records for these details in its system. If there are none found, it means that this person may have used another person’s details to apply for social grants or used fake documents to apply for them
Applicants can check their application status on Sassa’s website by entering their application number and date of birth into the appropriate fields on the home page
Grant applicants who receive an ‘Identity Verification Failed’ status can appeal this decision by lodging
